Hello and Welcome to MentalShavings.com

Every day, we’re confronted by thousands of messages imploring us to think or act in a certain way. Not just from marketers. But from our friends, colleagues and loved ones, too.

Why do some of those succeed, why do most fail miserably, and what does it tell us about how to get more done by communicating more persuasively?

That’s the stuff of strategic communications. That’s the stuff of Frank J. Oswald’s Mental Shavings. Weigh in with your comments. Or drop me a note at frank@frankoswald.com.

Batto Sphera Recte

Batto Sphera Recte? Perhaps you’ve seen this bumper sticker around town, and asked yourself, “What the heck is that?” Well, here’s the answer.

With deepest respect to Marshall McLuhan, the message is the message.

Whichever medium you choose—hot or cool—will fail miserably if you don’t pinpoint a message that inspires the action you desire.

I help smart, forward-thinking companies identify those messages and communicate them in a persuasive voice.

As a communications strategist and writer, I’ve worked with progressive companies with a broad range of perspectives and personalities—from Accenture to Yahoo!

I’ve consulted with scores of C-suite executives, collaborated with advertising, design and branding gurus, ghost-written for a Pulitzer Prize winner, and penned speeches for a king.

I grew up with a Midwestern work ethic, earned my master’s degree from the Ivy League, and am comfortable working in both worlds—with business leaders from around the world.

Most weeks, you’ll find me at Columbia University (click for bio), where I’m a lecturer in the school’s master’s degree program in strategic communications.

Whether you’re looking for what to say, or how say it, maybe I can help you, too. Drop me a note at frank@frankoswald.com and let’s get a conversation started.

I look forward to helping you move forward,

Frank J. Oswald
