Standing a mere two-foot tall, with a rubber hose sticking out his derriere, Manneken Pis (Dutch for “little man urinating”) is far from Europe’s grandest monuments.

But it is the most famous landmark in Brussels—and one of the most popular fountains in the world.

Among divergent narratives, the statue is said to represent a little boy who urinated on the burning fuse of an explosive charge, saving the Belgian capital from a foreign attack during the 14th century.

While visiting Brussels, I couldn’t help to think that that Manneken would make a great symbol for small business owners worldwide.

His inspirational message: It’s not always the size of your product or company that matters; it’s the stature of your story.
